Health Warning Signs


If your companion animal has any one of the following symptoms persistently, or displays a combination of several, a veterinarian should see it.

* Discharge (from any body opening)
* External bleeding
* Lump under the skin
* Continuing pain or tenderness

* Fever
* Lethargy, depression

Symptoms of Kidney Disease in Dogs

* drinking excess amounts of water
* frequent urination
* dilute urine with little color or order
* leakage of urine
* vomiting
* weight loss
* anorexia
* lethargy
* muscle weakness
* elevated BUN (blood urea nitrogen) and creatinine
* significant protein in the urine

Canine Viral Hepatitis

Symptoms: – fever, lack of appetite, vomiting, intense thirst, abdominal tenderness, and hemorrhages.

Bloat

Symptoms: – a dog with GDV will have a distended abdomen and may appear restless and depressed and have dry heaves.

Hip dysplasia

Symptoms: – a dog with Hip dysplasia will develop varying degrees of lameness.

Aortic stenosis

Symptoms: – dogs with mild stenosis will generally show no clinical effects and have a normal life expectancy. With moderate to severe stenosis, signs will be variable. You may see reduced exercise tolerance – your dog just seems to run out of steam – or fainting due to inadequate blood supply to the brain.

Canine Distemper

Symptoms: – fever (103 to 105ºF or 38 to 40ºC), depression, loss of appetite, pus-filled eyes, nasal discharge, vomiting, and diarrhea, sometimes convulsions.

Canine Parvovirus

Symptoms: – fever, loss of appetite, pus-filled eyes, nasal discharge, vomiting, severe diarrhea, rapid dehydration, and weight loss. If the heart is involved, coughing, labored breathing, or even sudden death may occur.

Skin Disorders

Symptoms: – scratching, itching, inflammation of the skin, yeast infections and discharges.

Eye Problems

Symptoms: – reddening of the eye, increased tears and discomfort, swollen and inflamed eye glands. Symptoms: – ear scratching, head shaking, discharges.

Rabies

Symptoms: – First stage: dog exhibits change in bahvior, fear. Second stage: dog’s behavior becomes more aggressive. Third stage : loss of coordination, trouble with bodily functions.

Hypoglycemia

Symptoms: Most common clinical signs of hypoglycemia are drowsiness, shivering, shaking, collapsing, disorientation, seizures, listlessness, depression, muscle weakness and tremors.
