Could there be a link between rat feces and dog illness?

It occured to me yesterday that my dogs sometime eat the rat feces which they kick out of there cage. Now I had a shih tzu who got this strange illness after we got the rats. I am not sure exactly how long after as this was a few years ago. She developed neurological problems which affected her left side. She would also throw up every so often like every other day. Finally the vomiting stopped completely after a few months. Yes we took her to the vet. They had no diagnose for the vomiting or her neurological problems. About a month ago, she was diagnosed with autoimmune hemolytic anemia which has no actual known cause. She had to be put down a week later. I am trying to figure out if there could be a possible link between any of this and the rat feces. It is also quite possible that this could have been genetic since my grandma bought her at a pet store and she likely came from a puppy mill. Now I have a malchi puppy which is a maltese/chihuahua mix.
She is 2.4 pounds. I have seen her eat the feces once and I am trying to keep her away from it. I just want to know how harmful it could be. I want to make sure that it won’t cause any of the other diseases my shih tzu may have had. The shih tzu was about 4 when this all started happening.
She was sick but it was due to her eating a pill of immodium. She is not sick now. I am just scientifically trying to see if there could be a link.

Is there an actual illness which makes a small dog’s feces smell like a skunks spray?

This is a very strong smell, smell’s exactly like a skunk’s spray, and the smell will linger forever. My dog has never had this before, and she has not changed her food lately. Also, she has her anal sacks emptied regularly, so i don’ty think that’s it.

Is there an actual illness associated with this?
You have to be sick yourself, to suggest that someone go to the vet because their dog’s s-h-i-t stinks. Sheesh.
