How do I get the sick dog smell out of my apartment?

My dog (Rottweiler) was recently sick with an intestinal parasite (she’s fine now). Needless to say, she went to the bathroom (diarrhea) and vomited numerous times all over my apartment. Even though I cleaned it up as it happened, I think the smell has somehow embedded itself into the carpet.

No matter what I do, I cannot get the smell out of certain rooms. I’ve tried using bleach, incense, vacumming, baby powder, opening up all the windows, air fresheners, fans, etc.

Nothing works. No matter what I do, I cannot get the smell out and it’s really starting to get to me. I might be able to get the smell out for an hour or two at best, but it always comes back.

At first, I thought my dog was the source of the smell, so I have been giving her a bath everyday, so that rules that source out.

What can I do to get rid of the smell? Do I really have to get my carpets cleaned or is there a cheaper way?

Thanks!

Is there an actual illness which makes a small dog’s feces smell like a skunks spray?

This is a very strong smell, smell’s exactly like a skunk’s spray, and the smell will linger forever. My dog has never had this before, and she has not changed her food lately. Also, she has her anal sacks emptied regularly, so i don’ty think that’s it.

Is there an actual illness associated with this?
You have to be sick yourself, to suggest that someone go to the vet because their dog’s s-h-i-t stinks. Sheesh.
